What Parents & Participants Say

This programme has benefitted both myself and my 13 year old daughter, the results have been far in excess of my expectation. My daughter does not have a neurodivergent diagnosis. The PEERS programme has been immensely helpful not just for my own daughter but also for myself. Some of the content seems very basic but put into practice all starts making sense and building on itself. My daughter has become more confident, has made many new friends and made adjustments to her reputation at school. I highly recommend this course to any parent of a teenager or young person.

We suggested our 20yo son enrol in Christine O'Leary's young adults PEERS course. Our son is on the Autism spectrum, with social challenges common to young people with that diagnosis. The course is not cheap and it took a serious commitment from our son and from us to get the most out of it. But I commend Christine for the quality of the material, her attention to detail, her connection with and care for every participant, and her positive approach. By the end of the course the participants were really encouraging and supporting each other; and this connection was led by Christine and woven into the way the course works. We live interstate and participated through weekly Zoom sessions but we had no technical issues, live discussions and video training clips went smoothly. Our son now has a practical process to follow for all sorts of social situations he (and many of us) has found difficult. E.g. there are at least 6 steps in the process for handling disagreements, and apologising is not until step 5. We warmly recommend Social Skills Australia's PEERS courses and Christine.

Wow! Just WOW!!!! What a journey my son has had with Christine. He has gone from being a child who was a prisoner in his own bedroom. He was home schooled from actually not being able to leave the house, and was so lonely and depressed. All from major anxiety and asd . He has struggled with his peer relationships his whole life. I was one of these desperate, hopeful, parents who was quite Sceptical if this peers course was all it was made out to be. Well my son is proof . 16 weeks ago my son was petrified to go to peers. He couldn't stay in the room with the other kids because of anxiety. He was texting me “mummy please pick me up i want to come home “. Christine was patient and never pushed him , but with her skill of knowing young people like Aiden and her gentle encouragement he made is through the course. He is now attending an actual real school , he has made multiple friends , and has absolutely transformed his life! We are both so so grateful for Christines knowledge, skill, patience and her genuine care for helping these young people to make life changes that transform these kids . We will continue to do bootcamps with Christine ,and also keep going over the skills learnt with information that is emailed each week for future reference. Doing the parents part each week was also fantastic as it gave me tools to support Aiden’s learning , and i actually learned a great deal too. :) Thank you peers and thank you Christine xx Tracey
